From the 7th to the 11th September, professionals from the world of decoration and design gathered at the Maison & Objet show at the Parc des Expositions in Villepinte near Paris. The perfect opportunity for me to discover the latest news and moreover to identify future trends, including the colours that will dress the interiors of 2019. Yes, like fashion, the colours are renewed throughout the seasons to create personalized atmospheres in our homes. Verdict: next winter will be all about those beautiful natural tones. Varying shades of terracotta, soft greens and sober browns will warm the interiors. Check it out...

The colours of the earth

It’s probably not necessary to re-introduce the colour terracotta which has been in the limelight since last winter. From Italian meaning "cooked earth", this warm colour truly responds to a need for authenticity. Alongside it, one also finds the color "lie de vin", a purplish bordeaux which evokes the marsala of Pantone (flagship colour of 2015), as well as ochre and powder pink aka blush which brings elegance to the interiors.

The greens

Spotted for several seasons, green continues its breakthrough in decoration with a wide range of shades ranging from pine green, khaki green, sage green, mint green or anise green. But the new kid on the block as far as bringing a touch of foliage to the house is almond green. Delicate and fresh, it should be used if only for the sense of serenity that it exudes.

The browns

This winter’s surprise trend will be browns with deep colour, bright or light. They will pair well with neutral hues and create a sombre atmosphere in any interior. Alongside it a spiced honey brown will tie it all together and infuse a cosy feel. It’s a safe bet that this spicy honey, composed of shades of amber and gold will become 2019’s colour of the year. Something to keep an eye on!
